Hi Guys, I am doing a little research for the Norwood History Group and am currently trying to write profiles on Graham Farrow and Max Mayo who both played for Norwood just after the war.
I have player stats, games played, goals kicked etc, that is no problem. But I am wondering whether some of the older Forumites here, may have some personal recollections of actually seeing them play and what they were like - elusive left footer or tough and nuggety or whatever as the case maybe.
Any impressions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Graham Farrow from memory was a cool half-forward left-footer.
Max Mayo was more exciting. Came from Camberwell in the VFA. Reliable right foot kick, excellent mark. Played centre half-forward and full forward. Still lives on the Gold Coast, I think. One match the mad North defender Neil McCann stamped on Max's injured hand while he was on the ground. Max got up and slotted him. Got a couple of matches I think but it was a lenient sentence because of extenuating circumstances. Another time the Port full back John Abley was harassing Max so much that he walked over to a goalpost and just leant against it, to let everyone, including the umpires, know that he'd had enough.

On reflection, Farrow played at least some of the time at full forward. An accurate kick.

Here's a bit more on Graham Hope Farrow, born 18/11/1922. Pretty sure he was a left-footer but can't be absolutely certain. Began with Norwood Senior Colts 1941. Senior debut with Norwood-North 1942 and played only two games 1943. After service as a flying officer in the RAAF, became a Norwood regular in 1946. League career: 1942-49. Games: 61. Premierships: 1946, 1948. Games: 61. Club's top goalkicker 1948 with 64 goals. Had 114 goals up to end of 1948, don't know career total (ask Graeme Adams or Wynton).
