Interesting just reading some facts and Pat Hall was the coach of the victorious U19 premiership team in 1960.
I remember seeing the Norwood U19 team win the premiership at Richmond about 1963 .
Ross Porritt was captain I think, but who was the Coach?
Who was the coach?

Bob Slade. Around half the side turned up at Norwood Oval 2-3 years back when Bob's ashes were scattered around the SW flank.
People who find themselves in a dangerous situation, who remain in control of their actions and attempt to resolve the danger, are courageous. People, who knowingly place themselves in danger so as to try and reduce the risk to others, are called heroes.

I remember sneeking into the rooms at Richmond at half time to hear his address.
He looked neat wearing a suit and tie I reckon ,and did he give the boys some 'curry',I think we won easily in the end.
Again as I remember Ross Porrit had a good game at centre half back.

Interesting that Pat Hall was the coach of the Under 19's in 1960. I do not recall Hall post him going to Glenelg.
1960 was the second year of Alan Killigrew, who had replaced Bunton in 1959 and after some significant ructions at the club which commenced with Bunton's appointment as a 19 year old playing-coach in 1957 and the Committee attempting to "clear the air" for Bunton in 1958, a year of poor performance.
Bunton returned to the club as a player in 1960. Peter Aish was captain.
I have some recollections that the fallout from the 1957 appointment of Bunton included that Riemann went to South Adelaide as (playing?) coach, Hall went to Glenelg as (playing?) coach and Koerner went to North Adelaide as playing-coach.
Koerner later returned but did not have an impact.
So Hall's stay at Glenelg must have been short if he was back coaching the Under 19's in 1960.
Which year did Alan Shiell kick over 100 goals in the Under 19's - before making 200 not out v. the touring Poms and then writing for a newspaper? I am pretty sure that that year was a Under 19 Premiership year and was during the time of Burton from Broken Hill after whom a Memorial Trophy was named.
Burton I think won successive medals in the Under 19's.

1945, it's a pity we don't have more supporters who knew more info for the 60's period posting here.
I have just read Mike Coward's Red and Blue Blooded ,under the Robert Oatey section with mention of Pat Hall being coach of the 1960 victorious team,I was at Adelaide Oval that day and can also remember Norwood winning the seconds premiership as well.
Pity we could not achieve the major win under Killa to make 3 from 3.
I wonder, can anyone advise who was the coach of that reserves team on the day ?
Go the Legs.

After Killigrew left following the 1962 season, I think Doug Olds was appointed Coach but the Club fell on lean times (my view was that the junior base had been ignored in favour of recruiting former VFL players of whom Killigrew recruited plenty and we paid the price. We had always traditionally had very strong junior sides and were able to identify some talent altho the numbers progressing to league football were comparatively few).
Bunton coached again in 1965, and Norwood made the finals but made an early exit. This was the year Brewer fell just short of 100 goals.
From there is was downwards including the early Oatey years until the recruiting of junior players (and a couple of senior players such as Roach and then Wynne) saw improvement from the 1970 season - and then Hammond in 1974 set the foundations for what followed.
When Oatey started we had Nygaard at full back and either Porrit or Butchart at CHB - and not much forward.
So we had "flanker sized" players in the key positions and were not competative - winning very few games.

I've just seen this thread and will attempt to answer any questions on the 1960s people may have. At the moment I'm in Thailand and won't be returning until early April, most underage records are a little rusty in my mind.
I recall both Under 19s and Under 17s going top in 1965. I was talking to Brian Woodcock who played in the 1963 U19s flag under Slade. He claims he was considered too small, eventually forced his way into the team, went on to win the 1964 U19s medal, then the 1966 Reserves Magarey Medal after that. Another interesting name in the 1965 premiership teams is Trevor Grimwood, future league medallist with Wesites, via Port.
The mid-late 60s was the beginning of a dominant era for our Reserves teams winning flags in 1966 and 1969.
I think people are correct in saying Alan Shiell kicked 100 goals for the 1963 U19s, but I'll check that out later. I know his 202* against the MCC was in the 1965-66 season.
I'll supply more information on the 1960 U19s premiership team when I am able.

Neil Dansie or Doug Olds Maybe?
